Erdem et Sevil vivent avec leurs enfants Edip et Sevgi dans une petite ville turque. Lorsqu’ils doivent partir pour Istanbul pour s’occuper de la mère malade de Sevil, leur vie connaît un brusque changement. Dix ans plus tard, Erdem rêve encore de son ambition d’antan, vivre de l’écriture; Edip part en internat pour ses études. Quant à Sevil, elle remarque que sa fille Sevgi se renferme de plus en plus sur elle-même et semble malheureuse depuis le départ d’Edip. Elle décide d’en avoir le cœur net et découvre alors un sombre secret…
