A propos du film :

A la radio, dans les années soixante, Boubacar Traoré, dit "Karkar", réveille chaque matin le Mali en chantant l'indépendance. Il fait danser tous les jeunes grâce à ses tubes, mais sa musique est uniquement diffusée par la radio et il n'a pas un sou en poche. Il pose sa guitare et commence à travailler comme tailleur et commerçant pour nourrir sa famille. Quelques années plus tard, un drame le frappe : Pierrette, sa femme bien aimée, décède. Boubacar ne s'en remet pas et s'exile en France. Il travaille dans le bâtiment et chante dans les foyers d'immigrés de la région parisienne, où il passe sa vie. Au Mali, on le croit disparu à jamais. C'est alors qu'un producteur de disques écoute un vieil enregistrement de lui...
