Louise retourne en Belgique après un long voyage en Asie, mais elle semble hésiter à retourner à la maison et repousse le moment de rentrer. À Bruxelles Nord, un Américain la remarque. Il est sur le point de partir en voyage. Au lieu de prendre son train, il suit Louise. Contrairement à elle, il recule le moment de partir. Ce qui suit est un trekking à travers Bruxelles la nuit. Ils sont dans l'intermédiaire, pas encore partis, pas encore rentrés, dans une énorme zone de transit, Bruxelles: un espace qui ne répond pas aux attentes et aux exigences quotidiennes de la réalité. Un lieu qui invite à des rencontres étonnantes, un espace inter-culturel, inter-national. Et bien sûr, les problèmes de communication qui vont avec. Comment expérimenter le pays familier/natal comme un pays étranger? Beaucoup de petits moments remarquables, comme le monologue de l'ex-chauffeur de taxi qui continue à conduire chaque nuit à travers Bruxelles, font du film un détour qui en vaut la peine.
