Clara est une jolie chatte un peu chétive, mais extrêmement heureuse : elle va bientôt donner naissance à un petit. Alors qu'une tempête glaciale fait rage, elle met au monde sans encombre un magnifique chaton. Avec amour, elle décide de le prénommer "David". Quelque temps plus tard, Clara songe à l'avenir de son petit. Elle estime que David a besoin d'un père. Or, Clara a fait récemment la rencontre du richissime Murdstone, un matou dont elle tombe peu à peu amoureuse. Mais bien vite, celui-ci dévoile sa vraie nature. Il devient particulièrement méchant et même violent. Face à ce comportement intolérable, David se promet de tout faire pour retrouver sa liberté...
